a bunch of Good Samaritan

Kudos to the kind-hearted and generous alumni of The Magsingal Institute (TMI) in the Philippines who are sponsoring deserving students to finish their studies.

TMI is my alma mater. It is located in the northern part of the Philippines at Magsingal, Ilocos Sur.

I graduated in 1986 (secondary).

Four generous alumni of batch 1973 started sponsoring a scholar in year 2010.

The first scholar has graduated already!

She is now a public school teacher.

Another scholar recently graduated as cum laude and just took the licensure examination for teachers last Saturday.

At the moment there are 33 scholars.

The scholars are in different levels: Junior high school, Senior high school and college.

These 33 students who dared to dream are funded by 50 alumni of TMI who belong to different batches.

Batch 1973 sponsored two scholars in years 2010 and 2014.

Upon the intercession of Ma’am Zenia Urmatam Foronda batch 1971 sponsored two scholars in 2015.

The following year another 4 scholars were sponsored by batch 1969, 1976, and the Magsingal Italy Association.

Other alumni who started sponsoring some scholars this school year 2018 belong to batch 1958, 1968, 1971, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977, 1980 and 1994.

Some sponsors from batch 1974 has been giving allowances to chosen scholars for how many years now.

Two members of batch 1986 where I belong are sponsoring one scholar at the moment.

The scholarship program is unique in so many ways!

1. The sponsors also act as advisers to the scholars.

2. They do not only advise on their studies but also on their lovelife!

3. There are lessons uploaded in the facebook group, The Magsingal Institute Alumni Association (TMIAA) Scholars and Sponsors Xchange .

4. The lessons range from English lessons and Advanced grammar questions.

5. There is even an essay writing contest with cash prizes from the sponsors.

For those who want to share their blessings and help students reach their dreams you can do so with:

P10,000.00/year (about $200) – Junior High School

P20,000/year (about $400) – Senior High School

P30,000/year (about $600) – college.

The TMIAA President Cesar Oandasan advised the scholars to “dare to dream.”

That they must not just aim to graduate but to do so with honors.

“SCHOLARS! Aim not just to finish college. You should aim to finish your courses with high honors.”

TMI alumni has a facebook group which now has more than one thousand two hundred members.
